LibreOffice 5.0.4 Officially Released
A new major update has been released for LibreOffice
The Document
Foundation has revealed today that LibreOffice 5.0.4 has been released
and is now available for download and upgrade.
LibreOffice 5.0.4 is now the most stable and
advanced version available and it comes with a large number of fixes and
other small improvements. Developers will continue to provide support
for this particular branch for a few more months, so upgrading now is
actually a good idea.
This open source office suite has been getting
better and better with these small updates. Developers still find issues
to fix, and the two Release Candidates that have been made available
for 5.0.4 have been very consistent. A large number of DOCX improvements
 have landed, among other stuff.
LibreOffice 5.0.4 is ready for download
"The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice
5.0.4, the fourth release of the LibreOffice 5.0 family, with a large
number of fixes over the previous releases. So far, the LibreOffice 5.0
family is the most popular LibreOffice ever, based on feedback from
journalists and end users," the developers have explained.
The Document Foundation has also specified that if
users want to adopt this version on large scale deployments, they should
seek professional support from certified migration consultants and
trainers. This is going to be a branch designed for such migrations, so
they developers are prepared for support.
If you have an older version of Ubuntu, with the
previous 4.x branch of the LibreOffice suite, you can upgrade by using
this simple PPA. Just enter the following commands in a terminal near
you:
 code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-5-0
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
It's also worth pointing out that this branch of
LibreOffice is aimed at early adopters since it's quite likely other
bugs and issues still linger in the code. In any case, you can download LibreOffice 5.0.4 right now from Softpedia, or you can wait until it arrives in your favorite repository.
